Homemade Holiday Gifts for Fido

December 1 2017

Have you finished your holiday shopping? Or are you a last-minute shopper? Either way, don’t forget to pick up something for your dog. Fido definitely deserves a special gift. You don’t have to break the bank getting holiday gifts for your pet, however. Read on for some great DIY doggy gift ideas from a Grayson, GA vet.

DIY Doggy Toy

To make your canine companion a cute rope toy, cut an old tee shirt into thin strips. You can also use a towel or sheet. If you want to make your furry buddy’s toy look nice, use two things that are separate colors. Braid the strips together, and then braid the braids together. Tie a knot on the end to finish it. Voila!

Snacks

If you enjoy cooking, why not make your pooch some special snacks? You’ll find lots of great recipes online. Just be sure to only use pet-friendly ingredients. Some good options are plain yogurt; sodium-free broth; cooked, plain meat, chicken, or fish, without the skin bones, or fat; bacon grease; bacon fat; bananas; cheese; natural peanut butter; and whole-wheat flour. You can also add certain fruits or veggies, such as cooked peas or carrots. If you want to make your pup’s snacks look nice, use a bone-shaped mold to shape them. Then, put them in a pretty jar. These make great gifts for Fido’s four-legged buddies!

Fido Fun Zone

Make Fido’s outdoor time even more fun by adding a doggy playground to your yard. A doghouse is a great addition, and isn’t too hard for crafty types to make. Or, get a kiddie pool or sandbox for your furry buddy to play in. You can also incorporate are ramps, tunnels, and, of course, lots of toys.

Doggy Bed

Making sure your canine friend has a comfy bed to snuggle up in is very important. For small dogs, you can turn a hatbox, wooden crate, or hard shell suitcase into a bed. If you have a bigger pooch, upcycle a coffee table or tractor tire, or make Fido a bed out of a pallet. Just add varnish or paint to make it look nice, and then put in some comfy bedding. Look online for more ideas.
