DIY Bunny Toys

September 1 2016

Rabbits can make wonderful pets. These little furballs are not only absolutely adorable, they’re also lots of fun. Floppy does have some specific needs, however. In order to keep your furry friend happy and healthy, you’ll need to provide her with good food, a comfy habitat, regular veterinary care. Toys are also very important. Fortunately, you don’t have to break the bank to keep your bunny entertained. In this article, a Lawrenceville, GA vet lists some great DIY bunny toys.

Paper

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at paper origami? Why not make your bunny some paper trees? You can also shred some plain copy paper, and put it in a shoebox for Floppy to rifle through. Hide a few yummy treats underneath it to make it even more fun. Or, just crumple up a sheet of paper around a small snack.

Food Treats

Like most pets, bunnies love snacking. Hang a piece of twine between two chairs, and use clothespins to hang fresh veggies from it. Or, stuff some fresh hay into a paper grocery sack.

Recess Time!

Bunnies need at least a few hours outside of their cages every day. Why not make Floppy a little obstacle course? Just arrange some footstools, and perhaps a few boxes, so your cute pet can hop onto them. Another great idea is to give your furball a storage tote digging box. Add some shredded paper or Timothy hay, and bury some fun toys beneath it.

Cardboard

You can make lots of great bunny chew toys out of cardboard. The tubes from paper towel and toilet paper rolls can be stuffed with hay or herbs, or cut into rings and reassembled into little balls. You can also stuff several into a tissue box, and drop snacks into them. Or, simply cut some shapes out of a cardboard box for Floppy to nibble on.

Other Options

Many wood, wicker, and cardboard items make great bunny toys. Old spoons and children’s blocks, for instance, can be lots of fun for Floppy. Just be sure to put your pet’s safety first. Don’t give your furball anything with small pieces or sharp edges, or items covered in paint, glitter, or dye. Ask your vet for more information.
