Our highly skilled doctors are experienced in performing a wide variety of pet surgeries, both routine and complex. At Dogwood Animal Hospital, a large percentage of our procedures are laser surgeries. There are benefits to choosing laser surgery versus traditional methods in appropriate cases. The key benefits to laser surgery include: reduced bleeding, reduced pain, reduced swelling and infection, and a faster recovery period for your pet. We use the most modern equipment and cutting edge techniques to help us achieve optimum results for your pet. Most importantly, we place the safety and comfort of our patients as our highest priority. From the moment you drop them for surgery until you return to pick them up, your loved one will be in excellent hands with us!
Before & During Surgery
Prior to your pet’s scheduled surgery, we will conduct a thorough exam and health screening to ensure that he or she is well enough to proceed. Pre-surgical screening helps us to identify certain things that may place your pet at a higher risk so that we can effectively plan for these things ahead of time. The more prepared we are, the better the chances of a smooth and uneventful procedure.
When it’s time to start the operation, our experienced support staff will begin by administering pain control which will be customized to your particular pet. This helps to ensure that your companion remains as comfortable as possible throughout the process while also minimizing risk at every corner. Your pet will peacefully drift off into safe sedation to the soothing voices and gentle touches of our care team.
Once sedated, the doctor will begin the procedure, working diligently – with great precision and care – to complete the process as efficiently as possible. All the while, your pet’s wellbeing will be closely monitored using cutting edge equipment. We want to be sure that your loved one is kept as safe and comfortable as possible at all times.
When surgery is complete, your pet will be gently relocated to our warm, quiet recovery area where we will keep a close eye on them as the anesthesia begins to wear off. You will be contacted via phone to discuss how the surgery went and schedule a pickup time for your pet. Before bringing your four-legged friend home, we’ll explain how to help make the recovery process as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Should any questions or concerns arise after you’ve returned home, we encourage you to give us a call. Our goal is to make your pet’s surgical experience – before, during and after – as positive and stress-free an experience as possible for everyone involved.
